NBC- Nincompoop baby Criers!
That is what I feel NBC stands for today, as it was announced last night(Tuesday) That , after only 3 friggin' episodes, has cancelled "The Book Of Daniel"
citing poor ratings in it's Friday night 10 pm time slot.
OK, First- do they expect us to swallow this LAME explanation for the cancellation? I don't, and here's why. When you have a show that you have put ALOT of advertising and hype behind, and when that show is CONTROVERSIAL and people are Raving for or Raging against that show, that is PUBLICITY. It's GOOD when people are talking about a show. You don't think there was alot of outrage and hype about Desperate Housewives? The public was talking about it. There were threats made by conservative leagues to get it taken off the air before it even started. But here we are, in the second season, with how many Emmy's and Golden Globes racked up now? "The Book of Daniel" was controversial, yes. Definately. Was there innapropriate subject matter for some people? Definately. All things on this show were not for everyone. DUH- the 10pm time slot? Not exactly a time when mom and pop are up watching family TV with the Kiddies. But, even only having arrived at the 3rd episode, the subject matter was decidedly toned down by comparrison to the first episode. Things were beginning to mellow out, the shock value was starting to wear off, and the story lines were starting to come down to more real human drama factors. But it wasn't even given a chance! Were there some aspects of the story line that made me wince just a little bit? Did I think they needed to tweak the recipe a bit? Yes. BUT- I GAVE IT A CHANCE. MOST of the leagues and groups who were clammoring for it's cancellation had ADMITTEDLY not even SEEN one episode! The were swinging from the rafters up in arms over what they had "HEARD" about the show. BAD move, NBC. You could have really had something here. Instead, you bowed to pressure from the groups dangling the perverbial golden carrots in front of your noses and took the bait, and cancelled this show. BOOOOOO... BOOO I say!
